"Belchertown Animal Control"

Important notice in response to COVID-19:

Belchertown Animal Control is closed to the public.  We have staff present from 8am - 4pm each day to assist with urgent matters.

To reclaim your animal:  If your animal is currently at BAC, please call the Shelter.  We will assist people and animals from your vehicle.  When you arrive, please be ready to text us photos of your valid ID, your animal, and any related paperwork such as rabies vaccination and licensing documents.  The number to text will be provided once you arrive.

To surrender an animal:  URGENT CASES ONLY.  So we can best manage our shelter population, you must contact our staff via telephone to discuss your situation.  A determination will be made if we can accept the animal and you will receive further instructions.

Adoptions:  Adoptions have been temporarily suspended.  We are currently relying on foster options for animals.

Please be patient with us during this callenging time.  We are doing the best we can to communicate well with each person requesting our services.

All non-emergency calls received outside of regular business hours will be returned when regular hours resume.

REMEMBER….NEVER call 9-1-1 for an animal issue unless a human is being attacked!

If you have an animal emergency outside of our regular hours, call the Belchertown Police Department at 323-6685. If your call is a true emergency, they will contact us.

Do you recognize this little man?  He was scared up a tree on North St. near Warren Wright St. on 2/17/19 and was rescued on 2/18/19.  He is currently safe and warm at the Animal Control Shelter.  Please contact us if you recognize him.

When animals arrive at our shelter, they need to be seen by a Veterinarian.  Those costs can add up.  If you would like to make a donation to help with the costs, please see our link on the left hand side of this page.  -  Thank you

2019 Dog License Information

2019 Dog licenses are available

Online dog licensing is currently not available.

If you would like to receive a reminder to license your dog/renew rabies notices via email, please send an email to and put "dog license reminder" in the subject line.  Please list your name and address so your email address will be attached to the correct dog(s).

Dog Licenses for 2019 are now available.  All dogs over 6 months old must be licensed before January 31, 2019.  After February 15, there is a $10 late fee imposed, followed by a $30 fine after March 15 and $50 fine after April 15.  This is a Town By-law and if dogs are not licensed by May 15th, it becomes a by-law violation in addition to the $50 late fee. So, license early to avoid any fines.  If this is a new dog to town, please bring along a copy of the current rabies certificate and spay/neuter certificate.
If you are renewing your dog(s) license and the rabies certificate has expired, please be sure to provide a current vaccination certificate.   Mass General Laws have changed in regards to owning 5 or more dogs.  Please contact our office for more information.
The license fee in Belchertown is $8 for spayed/neutered and $15 for intact.
If you no longer have your dog, please be sure to notify our office so we can correct the files.  If you have moved within or out of town, also please notify our office so the records may be adjusted with your current address.

If your pet is missing, please call us or message us on Facebook with a picture and pertinent info that we can share. If we do not have your pet, we will take the necessary information and will contact you if we are notified of it being found.

Lost animals and those up for adoption can be found on our link on the left hand side of this page.
