The Supportive Day Program is a staffed activities and companionship based program. Our experienced staff provides support, monitoring and guidance for the benefit of the participants and peace of mind for their families.
The Supportive Day Program has the same wonderful atmosphere as the senior center but in a more intimate group setting. The program enriches the lives of seniors who would benefit from the opportunity to be in a supportive social setting. Those seniors living alone, with care-giving spouses needing respite, or seniors living with active families spending too much time alone watching tv, benefit as they may struggle with depression.
The activities promote positive mental and physical health and encourage social interaction. Our activities include a daily chair exercise program along with word games, trivia, cards, music, singing, dancing, reminiscing, laughter and more. We benefit seniors that are lonely and missing a sense of community, and those having memory of physical disabilities. It is important for seniors to have friends their own age with similar life experiences. Families cannot meet all of a senior's needs alone.
It is common for seniors to be hesitant or resistant to try something new. Please call for assistance in introducing a reluctant senior to the program.
The program is open Monday - Thursday from 9:00 to 3:00 and Friday 9:00 to 12:30. Seniors may come one or more days depending on their needs and the days available. The fee for the program is $38 a day including two snacks, a home cooked noon-time meal and six enjoyable hours. The Belchertown Senior Center van provides transportation in Belchertown only for $2.00 a day. Those participants from outside Belchertown can use PVTA or private transportation. West Mass Eldercare is the senior service for our area and may offer financial assistance for those that qualify.
