Most motor vehicle violations are called Civil Infractions and only carry a fine as a penalty. Contrary to popular belief a person can only be issued a citation if a Police Officer actually witnesses the traffic violation. The exceptions to this are Motor Vehicle violations that amount to Felonies and Misdemeanors or when we develop Probable Cause to believe that a motor vehicle infraction has been committed, such as while investigating an accident. However, if a motor vehicle infraction is brought to our attention we can handle it in two different ways: The two ways to report Bad Drivers are: 1) Stop by the station or call the Community Policing Hotline at (413) 323-0100 and leave a message detailing the location, time, vehicle description including plate number (if available) and a description of the vehicles behavior. 2) Report the driver directly to the Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) using the online form in our forms page.
When this form is online you will be able to report all motor vehicle complaints directly to the Belchertown Police Department. Once the operator of the vehicle has been identified a letter detailing their driving behavior and a request to refrain from such driving habits in the future will mailed out. |
