How can I do a criminal check on someone?

In the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the police department can not provide background checks on individuals as a public information request. This is called the Criminal Offender Records Information (CORI) and it is against the law for the police department to give out such information. However, you may call the Criminal History Systems Board at (617) 660-4600 for more information on how to obtain a criminal check on an individual.

How do I obtain a copy of my criminal record?

There are two different applications you can get, depending on what you are actually looking for.

1) If you are looking for a letter detailing your own criminal record from your local police department, you can come to the police station and obtain a
request form. Upon completion a letter will be generated by the department stating whether you have a record or not, in the Town of Belchertown only, or a list of your offenses in the Town of Belchertown only.

2) If you want a copy of your criminal record state wide you will have to contact the CHSB directly by calling (617) 660-4600 or complete the online form.
