Rain Barrel & Compost Bin Pre-Order Program

Compost Bin Order Form
Rain Barrel Order Form

It is that time of year to start thinking about conserving water and reducing waste.  Rainfall is hard to gauge and harvesting rainwater with a rain barrel can mitigate the irregular patterns of rainfall. To help homeowners and the Town manage their water supplies and reduce the effects of stormwater pollution on local water ways, Belchertown and Palmer are joining together to offer the opportunity to purchase both rain barrels and compost bins at a discounted price.  Capturing and storing water at the home and the use of raingardens are the two most effective ways to minimize stormwater runoff. Additionally, composting is a great way to recycle our organic waste into a beneficial soil amendment for our yards and gardens.  Belchertown and Palmer chose to work with the Great American Rain Barrel Co. and Earth Machine Co. to host this joint program.

Last year, 30% of Massachusetts cities and towns partnered with The Great American Rain Barrel Co., selling over 3000 barrels. The Great American Rain Barrel Co. has been an approved vendor for MASSDEP since 2010. Rain barrels are being offered to residents for the deeply discounted price of $59. Deadline for purchase is: by Midnight, June 2, 2019. To find out more about the barrels and the program, please visit: www.greatamericanrainbarrel.com/community/ and select Belchertown-Palmer.

It’s easy to make compost, and the Towns of Belchertown & Palmer make it even easier by offering rodent-resistant Earth Machine home composting bins for $43, over 50% off the retail price.  The first 50 residents of Belchertown with a valid 2019 transfer station permit can purchase the bins for $25! Deadline for purchase is: by Noon, May 24, 2019.

To order the discounted compost bins or rain barrels, please fill out the order forms available at the Conservation Offices for the Towns of Belchertown & Palmer, on either Town’s Conservation website and submit the form with payment to either office.  Rain barrels can also be purchased at www.greatamericanrainbarrel.com/community/ and selecting Belchertown-Palmer.
