The Supportive Day Group Program in Belchertown is an activities and companionship program specifically designed for elders who cannot or do not wish to stay at home alone during day.  We strive to enrich the lives of each senior by being a part of the supportive team that allows them to remain healthy, happy and independent.

The Friend’s Group at the Belchertown Senior Center has the same wonderful environment and atmosphere as the senior center but is a small group setting. The Friend’s Group has a caring, welcoming staff to ensure everyone is comfortable and has a great day.  We can enrich the lives of seniors living alone, with care-taking spouses needing respite, or seniors living with active families.  Everyone enjoys our daily chair exercise program along with word games, trivia, bingo, crafts, cards, music, singing, movies, laughter and more. We benefit seniors that are lonely and missing a sense of community, or a little shy, and those that have memory or physical disabilities. It’s important to be active to remain your healthiest both mentally and physically. We value our families but it’s wonderful to have friends your own age with similar life experiences. We give seniors a reason to get up smiling in the morning.

It is quite common for seniors to be hesitant to try something new or not be interested at all in coming to the senior center especially if they have not been in a social setting for a while. That doesn’t mean that they would not find it enjoyable. Just call and we can help with that transition.

We are currently open Monday - Thursday from 9:00 to 3:00. Seniors may come one or more days depending on their needs and the days available. We serve two snacks and a home cooked noon- time meal each day. There is a fee for the program and for our van transportation available only in Belchertown. Those participants from outside Belchertown can use PVTA or private transportation. WestMass Eldercare is the senior service for our area and they offer financial assistance for those that qualify.

This program has an  admission process and forms that need to be completed. Please email Dianne Radebaugh, the Friend’s Supportive Group coordinator, or call her at 413 323-0420 for more information.
