Our Story Time Programs will begin the week of July 7th
and will be held in the library at the Swift River Elementary School
until the main floor of the Clapp Memorial Library is re-opened.

The Clapp Memorial Library believes that
the Early Years are the Learning Years.
The first five years of a child's life are the most crucial for cognitive development. Scientific studies have shown that the cognitive abilities of young children raised in an environment rich in sensory experiences are significantly enhanced showing a positive correlation with future academic achievement.
The Clapp Memorial Library has just the right programs and resources needed to help you create such a learning environment in your home. While your child explores the riches of the Library you can find help and suggestions for all areas of parenting and teaching in our Parent/Teacher Collection. We have a friendly and knowledgeable staff who are always thereto offer courteous, congenial assistance. You and your child can choose from among thousands of:

In addition, the Clapp Memorial Library offers a variety of regularly scheduled Children's Programs as well as a number of popular special programs and work shops featuring talented performers and knowledgeable guest speakers. Among such programs are morning and evening music programs for young children, parent work shops, programs for child care providers, and infant massage classes. Visit the Library and read The Sentinel often to see what's being offered.
Programs for Preschoolers
Our storytimes feature age-appropriate stories, songs, finger plays and art activities.
Registration is required. Participation is determined by lottery. Please check with the
Library often to see when registration for the next Storytimes sessions are being held.
Baby time 3 -12 mos. Monday 9:15am
Firststeps 12-24 mos. Monday 10.00am
Toddler Time 2 years Tuesday 9:30am

Story Time Registration Guidelines
Book Groups and Creative Writing
Our Page Turners book group is for ages 6 to 9 and their parents and meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month from 5:30p.m. - 6:30p.m. Page Turners read the same book and then come together for great discussions and yummy snacks. Registration is required.
Our Mother/Daughter book groups are for ages 9 to 14 and their moms. Members
reads the same book and then comes together for great discussions and yummy snacks. The Mother/Daughter group meets on the second Tuesday of the month from 6:30p.m. - 7:30p.m.Registration is required.
Parent/Son group meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month from 7:00p.m. - 8:00p.m. and is for boys ages 10 to 14 and their parents. Members read the same book and then come together for great discussions and yummy snacks. Registration is required.
T.A.R.G.E.T This group is for teens in 7th to 10th grade and meets on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 7:00p.m. Members read the same book and then come together for great discussions and yummy snacks. Registration is required.
Friday Family Time is for boys and girls ages 8 to 11 and their families and meets on the 2nd Friday of the month at 4:00p.m. Members read the same book and then come together for great discussions and yummy snacks. Registration is required.
Creative Writing programs for children ages 8 to 11 are offered throughout the
year. Through walking excursions around town, word games and by sharing their
stories and poems with each other, young authors become more proficient writers.
During the school year these programs are held one afternoon a week, were as during
the summer we offer writing camps that run 3 days in a row. Registration is required.

Read daily, any where, anytime. It will quickly become a habit.
Have books in the living room, bedroom, bathroom, playroom, car, diaper bag..............
Choose books that interest you and your child. Be enthusiastic! Change your voice, act silly or sad, have fun!
Ask you child open-ended questions and encourage discussion.
Take a break if your child gets restless or read aloud as your child plays.
Keep reading aloud even after your child learns to read.
Children learn to speak by being spoken to, children learn to read by being read to. Have you read to
