Duties of the Commission
Voluntarily serves a three Year (Overlapping) Term; Commission consists of seven members, and meets on the second and fourth Monday of each month. The Conservation Commission is specifically charged with the protection of the communitys natural resources. The Conservation Commission also advises other municipal board and committees on conservation issues relating to their areas of responsibility.
The Commission is empowered to administer and enforce the Wetlands Protection Act, as well as the Belchertown Wetlands Bylaw and Regulations. The Commission has prepared an Open Space and Recreation Plan outlining Belchertowns natural and recreational resources as well as goals and objectives for protection and promotion of these resources. Thus, the Commission serves the community in a regulatory, as well as planning and advisory capacity, to focus municipal concern on environmental issues.
